Where can I eat before the show? Take advantage of numerous options within a few blocks of the Devon.
What time do the doors open? The lobby doors open one hour before curtain time (the time the show starts). You will be able to go into the house (audience area) one half hour before curtain time. Top of Page.
Where do I pick up my tickets? Tickets can be picked up at the ticket booth in the lobby of the theater on the day of the show, or any day before the show at the management office, located at 6319 Frankford Ave. (at the southern end of the block)
What if I’m late? If you arrive after the show has begun, the ushers will ask you to wait in the lobby until an appropriate break will make it possible for them to direct you to your seat. Sometimes this can happen during applause after a song or during a scene change. In some cases, you may not be able to be seated until intermission. Refunds cannot be given if you arrive late and are unable to be seated until intermission. Do your absolute best to arrive early! Top of Page.
What if I can’t attend a performance I purchased a ticket for?We do not offer refunds for tickets purchased for our shows at the Devon Theater. If you have a conflict with the date you’ve purchased tickets, we will be happy to re-schedule your tickets for another date based on ticket availability. Top of Page. What should I wear? Anything goes. Even on Broadway in New York City, you will see everything from blue jeans and sweat shirts, to evening gowns and tuxedos. At the Devon Theater, we want you to be comfortable. If jeans are your thing, Levi it up. If you dress to impress, iron a shirt and shine your dress shoes. Top of Page. Can I bring food and drink into the theater? No outside food or drink may be brought into the theater. However, we do have a wonderful concession bar where you will be able to purchase wine, beer, soft drinks, bottled water, and snacks to enjoy during the performances. There are numerous trash receptacles for your garbage during the intermission and after the show. Top of Page. Can I take my concession items to my seat? Yes! Anything you purchase at the concession bar at the Devon is welcome at your seat for the show. We even have cup-holders in the seats! Top of Page. When should I applaud? In a musical, it is customary to applaud at the end of every song, at the end of the first act, and during the curtain call/bows. Sometimes during a show, all the lights will fade to black (a blackout) while a scene is being changed and applause is typically appropriate there as well. If something is so funny that you are laughing hysterically (sure to happen more than once at the Devon Theater) you can applaud for that too. In a play, it is customary to applaud at the end of the first and second act, and also during blackouts/scene changes. A “standing ovation” typically happens at the end of the show during the final bows. You can stand up and clap, hoot and holler, if you feel the show was extraordinary. Top of Page. What time will the show be over? Musicals typically run about 2.5 hours total, with an 60-75 minute first act, 15-20 minute intermission, and a 45 minute second act. Plays can run about the same amount of time, or a little shorter. Giving yourself a 3-hour time window to spend at the theater, from buying a drink before the show to the standing ovation at the show’s conclusion, is a fairly safe bet for all shows. If you need specific running times for a show, please call the office and we’ll be glad to give you all the details. 215-338-6300. Top of Page. What if I need to use the restroom during the show? If nature cannot be stalled until the intermission or conclusion of the show, restrooms are available during the performance. Please understand that you will have to wait to be re-seated by the ushers until an appropriate break in the show. If at all possible, try to take care of all “business” before the show begins and at intermission! Top of Page. Is this show appropriate for my kids? At the Devon Theater, we do not produce shows that are “for adults only”. Some shows are more appropriate to bring your children to than others and only you as the parent can know what is suitable for your family. If you have a specific question about content for a show, please call the theater office at 215-338-6300. Top of Page. Will you recycle my playbill? YES!! At the Devon, we are doing what we can to eliminate extra paper waste to make our facility as green as we are able. If you don’t want to keep your playbill as a memento, please drop it off in one of the recycling boxes or hand it to an usher on your way out and we will absolutely recycle it for you. Top of Page. Can I rent the entire theater for an event? Yes! Call the theater office at 215-338-6300 for information. Top of Page. Are there any bad seats? No!
