WHY BECOME A DEVON THEATER VOLUNTEER?

Volunteers at The Devon enjoy a wide variety of opportunities to share their time and talents. Commitment and professionalism make our volunteers an unparalleled workforce whose energy is the heart and soul behind this thriving arts organization. If you have an interest in performing arts, arts education, or arts management, then the Devon Theater is the perfect volunteer opportunity for you. Volunteers perform various services within each artistic arena, while enjoying a strong sense of community, as well as pride in personal achievement and in The Devon.

What is required for each type of volunteer position?
Front of House
USHER
•           Greet guests as they enter the lobby and theater
•           Be on hand to answer any questions (bathrooms, concessions, shuttle service information)
•           Hand out programs
•           Show patrons to their seats
•           Help any late patrons find their seats, at designated times
•           Thank customers as they leave, help to clear out the theater
•           Distribute ALS (Assisted Listening Systems) devices as needed
BOX OFFICE
•           Handle cash and will call sales at the Box Office window
•           Direct patrons into the theater, answer any questions

Backstage
PRODUCTION
This includes attending to the needs of the cast and crew during theater performances, assisting the stage manager during shows, running spotlights, setting props, etc.

OFFICE
This includes answering phones, greeting customers, selling tickets to upcoming shows, as well as general clerical work as needed.

EDUCATION
There are opportunities to assist with our educational programs, from volunteering during Camp Devon to helping during school assemblies.

What is the time commitment for volunteering?
Front of house volunteers are asked to work a minimum of two shifts per month in order to remain as an active volunteer.
Backstage volunteers are required to work two shows minimum per show week. A few rehearsals during tech week leading up to the production will be required as well.
Office volunteers will be asked to work at least one four-hour shift per week.
Educational volunteers will be assigned work as needed.
