New Information Regarding the Devon Theater 2009/2010 Inaugural Main Stage Season11/17/09
Dear Devon Theater Patrons, Ticket-holders, & Subscribers,
Hopefully by now you have already read the email we sent out last Friday and/or have seen the email posted in the playbills if you attended Joseph over the weekend. As stated, with the late signing of 2009-2010 PA State Budget, came notification to many non-profits throughout the Commonwealth of the devastating decision to cut funding for community & economic development as well as arts & culture. The Devon is one of many non-profit entities across the state that has been forced to make difficult decisions. The Devon, being a brand new facility, has not had the time to financially stabilize itself through corporate sponsorships, and the establishment of a sizable client base, thus the ability to generate sufficient operational revenue has not been achievable. The 2009/2010 state grant which Devon Inc. did not receive was the critical component necessary to fund our theater season and enable us to further solidify the financial status of the theater. Unfortunately without this grant we will not be able to produce the remaining three shows. Once we determined that there was no recourse with the grant funding we felt our first responsibility was to inform our season subscription holders. While this email was short on detail we felt we needed to get the information we had out to you as soon as possible. Moving forward we would like to offer the following two options to our Season Subscribers: 1. The initial option of being able to use your remaining show tickets as a credit for 4 additional tickets to our current production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat between now and December 13, 2009 is still available. 2. Or you can utilize your tickets for a credit that will give you a dollar for dollar exchange for future shows that will include concerts, comedy nights, and other shows that the Devon Theater presents in the 2009/2010/2011 season. As an example if you have two tickets for each of the three cancelled shows at $20.00 per show you would have a credit for $60.00 per ticket - two tickets would give you a credit for $120.00. The logistics of how to do this will be coming out in another email in the near future. We are currently working very hard to book talent for a Holiday show, Valentines Day, Mothers Day, something in March for Saint Patrick's day, etc. - so there will be more options as the year goes on. You will be able to keep up on what is being booked by visiting the web site at www.devontheater.org and/or contacting the box office at 215-338-6300. The Devon Theater is not closing. We would like to emphasize that this decision does not affect any other facets of the Devon other than the remaining Inaugural Theater Season productions (excluding Joseph). The Devon Theater will continue to operate showcasing music, art, film, private functions, our educational programs, corporate affairs, and comedies. The Mayfair Community Development Corporation has one mission and that is to make Mayfair a Great Place to Live and Work. Everything we do is towards that goal. The CDC staff, myself, and over half our board live in Mayfair. This issue at the Devon affected our family, friends, and neighbors as it did yours. We are a dedicated group of people who work hard every day to bring things like the community center, streetscape improvements, educational programs, senior programs, community cleaning programs, the Devon Theater, etc to our community. I have spoken to dozens of Devon Theater patrons since Friday either in person, on the phone or via email. To those of you who were respectful, patient, and understanding I thank you for being so. Again thank you for your patience and we hope that you will continue to support the Theater. Reese Hartey Chairman of the Board Mayfair CDC 11/13/09
Dear Patrons of the Devon Theater,
With the approval of the 2009-2010 PA State Budget, came a significant cut in funding for community and economic development across the state. As a result of these budget cuts, the State Grant allocated to cover stage productions and operational costs associated with these productions for the Devon Theater was cut from the budget. Due to this unexpected loss in funding, the Devon Theater has been forced with a heavy heart to regretfully make the following decision:
Effective Immediately the (3) remaining shows in the Devon Theater Main Stage Season Subscription Series (Forever Plaid, Pump Boys & Dinettes, Noises Off) have been cancelled. This decision was not easy, but was one that was necessary to ensure that the Devon Theater remains an open viable venue for arts and culture in the region. We would also like to emphasize that this decision does not affect any other facets of the Devon other than the above mentioned show productions. The Devon Theater will continue to operate showcasing music, art, film, private functions, corporate affairs, and comedies. For those who hold Season Subscriptions, currently the only way for you to recover your season ticket cost has just been implemented. For each season ticket that you hold, you will be able to use your remaining credit for 4 additional tickets to our current production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. We urge you to order these seats quickly while there is availability for the dates you would like to come see the show again or bring additional friends/family. Theater tickets also make a great gift. For help with ordering additional tickets please contact our box office at 215-338-6300. We apologize for this inconvenience, and hope that we can continue to count on your support during these difficult and uncertain financial times. |
